More Flights Equates to More Malaga Holidays

Airport LuggageDue to the increase in people searching for bargains and deals, there has been a steady rise in the booking of last minute deals and vacations to Spain. Monarch Airlines have latched onto this trend and added additional flights to the popular tourist destination of Malaga.

Between the dates of 27th of August and the 5th of September, the airline department will be adding an extra 4000 seats in order to keep up with the demand of late bookings. This trend began in July as many companies saw a rise in last minute bookings as people were grabbing cheap deals at the latest possible date.  Alongside the additional journeys to Spain, Monarch has also added 12 new flights to Gibraltar due to this rise in delayed booking.

This development will see an increase in holiday makers travelling through London Gatwick, Manchester and Luton airports in order to get some last minute Spanish sunshine. As Spain has now joined Turkey as one of the most popular destinations in 2010, it is little wonder that there has been an increase in the number of UK tourists visiting the area. The cheap exchange rates, alongside the low cost of living, has made is an essential visit during these times where purse strings are tight and there is little extra money to go round. Spain still offers its visitors sunshine and luxury with its Eastern Mediterranean landscape and rich culture.

Tim Jeans, managing director at Monarch has commented on this trend by saying that

“as the pound has strengthened against the euro however, we’ve also seen a huge surge in demand for flights to our core Western Med destinations, particularly those in Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and the Spanish Islands, and the addition of these flights is in direct response to this.”

Due to the rise in websites promoting last minute deals and teletext bargains in the UK, people are no longer willing to pay extra expenses for a holiday which could be cheaper in a few months time. This change in holidaying comes at a time of online check-in and booking online systems. It appears people are looking for efficiency and simplicity alongside the luxury of their holiday. Monarch’s addition of its new flights to Malaga has aided this desire for simplified and quick getaways.
